Chap 3-Lesson 2 A Closer Look at the Education System of Selected Countries of the World

I learned that most of the countries that have mention in this topic are different in educational system like when the children go to school. They vary the way they manage the school policies and the numbers of year in every level, primary and secondary. Before can enroll in grade 1 level without taking kindergarten but now Kindergarten in our country is compulsory because we have a new curriculum the K to 12 program which means from kindergarten to twelve years of basic education. We need to make Kindergarten as compulsory for the learners to have an adjustment in school. So, when they enroll in the next level they will know how to handle themselves.

I realized that different counties as well as different educational system. We compare those counties and we can notice that we are behind. Let us support the k to 12 program, though many of our parents nowadays is complaining about this because they don't know the positive result of having this.

As a future teacher i will keep on reminding them of what is there in our new curriculum. I will gather them and give them a positive look about this to enlighten them. I think that is possible to happen.

Each of the countries have similarities like the Philippines, now they follow the curriculum of the United State. Also with Australia, their educational system is similar with the educational system of Canada and England that they have the same basic education. Unlike China, they have k to 13 curriculum.

I see that most of the countries right now are following the k to 12 curriculum. It is good thing that most of the country have free basic education which is compulsory for all the students. South Africa should follow the trends of education which is the k to 12 curriculum. Like the Philippines before that they do not have senior high school. I think it is really important to follow the k to 12 program to enhance the skills of the student.

  3. K-12 had been a hot issue eversince. Although it aims to produce productive and responsible citizens, will give students enough time in choosing their career path and enhance their skills to be globally competent. There are some who are still against, but I understand them because it is our nature, having different perspective. It's just simple, in order to prevent chaos, just admit that all things have pros and cons. If we really want improvement, start within ourselves and support it because it is already implemented and mandated according to law. Don't forget, that the main goal of Education is to make us good person.

  6. The curriculum that was made for the kindergarten until the senior high school was quite satisfying for me because it is really the product of different researches to make the education system in our country a better one. A new curriculum was developed with the new teaching strategies that would suit to the given curriculum. The core objectives of these said program was a positive and effective graduate that makes them a potential human resource of our country and help alleviate the poverty that was experienced by most of the Filipino people right now.

Some thinks about the dis advantage of this curriculum but there is also a lot of advantages of this k-12 curriculum.

  9. Implementation of K to 12 curriculum in our country gives student advantages. It prepares students for tertiary learning in their choosing career. Also, K to 12 focuses on enhancing the students progress and their future. K to 12 graduates will become globally competitive as they say but for me it still depends on how it was implemented.

  13. Kto12 helps us to become more mature when we turn to college. It helps us also to gain more knowledge about certain thing. For my own experience about kto12 Yes it is a waste of time but then that time helps me to have a selfsteem infront of many people.

  14. Implementation of K-12 curriculum in our country has an advantages because the goal of K-12 curriculum is to give students enough time to master their skills and concepts so that they are ready for tertiary education when time comes. Also K to 12 graduates will be ready to become globally competitive and are set to obtain a spot in the meticulous labor market.

  15. K-12 was designed specifically to equip students with skills that are essential for the 21st century, for the students to be able to utilize these skills once they decide to get jobs after SHS right away, as well as when they continue on with college. It is also so that the Philippines will be aligned with the rest of the world when it comes to the level of education students receive.

  18. As for me,as a product of this curriculum the K12 program, I could say that it really help me to choose what course should I pursue in tertiary level. K12 serve as a training ground for me to have a clearer understnding on what i really want to take up when i go to university. K12 teachers maybe are not that ready because alot of them are tasked or assigned to teach us subjects that is outside their field of experrise but they still manage to provide knowledge we need.K12 curriculum in the Philippinesmay not that effective as compare to other countries but it only needs time to impove and fill the gap for the discrepancies in the said curriculum.

  19. For me as a Filipino K-12 program is very helpful because it helps to enhance and develop the skills/ability of a student for their better future. Despite many of us are not agree in implementing K-12 program to our country especially the parents but we need to look at the positive side because they not implemented this K-12 program just to compete to other country but because its for our own sake.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree of that statement.Because K-12 have advantage. In this new curriculum we improve or enhance our skills. For me K-12 is very important because it helps us to make advance and because of that we are not too saddle. And of course it helps us to become globally competetive.

  21. For me the best advantages of K-12 is that we are exposed to the field we truly want to pursue. This is very helpful because the knowledge we obtain can help us when we work or continue to college. K-12 education also serves to socialize young people. It pulls them out of their comfort zone and introduces them to new people and beliefs. K-12 will provide holistic education fo all students. This means that students will improve communication and social skills. Moreover, students will gain more knowledge and experience before they go to college. K-12 advantages is that, students can get the opportunity to find the career that they really love. It also get students the access to all these great opportunities and have a fulfillment during this learning experience. Afterall education has no limit. Education is the most outstanding resource all citizens should have in order to improve and strenghthen their lives and humanity as a whole. The purpose of education is to prepare for both present and future generations. Education is the key to a successful and fulfilling life.

  22. I think it is a good thing to realize and implement the K-12 for our students to maximize their potentials and skills starting at the very young age. I think it will truly help us with our future education system and economy as well, as the students now will be leaders someday. For now, all we need to do is support and stick to the plan of the DepEd and on our Government on providing such education system to improve both on the people and for the country itself.

  23. 21st century learning has gone global. Our curriculum standards need to stand up to other emerging countries on a global platform. So, that the Department of Education implemented the K-12 curriculum in which according to them it will benefit the Filipino youth and the unemployment will be resolved. The advent of K-12 is good opportunity of improvement to the quality education that we currently have. As a future educator it motivate us to become a globally competitive with the help of K-12 curriculum.

  24. There are some people, specially our parents complaining about this K to 12 program because they think that implementing this program will result into wasted of time, money and it will take long process to move into college and have work already.
They didn't even know that implementing this curriculum have a good impact to us because it gives every student broaden their knowledge, enhance there skills and be ready to enroll of what they want in college. We need to keep pace so that we will not be last!.

  31. According to the 1987 CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES – ARTICLE XIV that education is for all, no one should left behind. For me with or without implementation of K to 12 there still advantage and disadvantage, cause and effect, factors, and positive-negative effect to everyone. We should learn how to accept and adapt the good things contrast to that we should know how to avoid bad things. K to 12 is best and appropriate for us because it helps us to advance our knowledge and enhance our skills and abilities.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Education is indeed powerful nowadays. Even people who are not that deep-pocketed are having perseverance to finish studies because we all know that it is very much valuable.

Some people are against in this K to 12 curriculum, because an additional 2 years in high school is somehow exhausting or tiresome.

But for me, based on my experience, the implementation of this curriculum in the Philippines is agreeable. It prepares us to become a well-molded and globally competent individual in the future. Some might say that our country just wanted to keep pace, come along or cope with other countries. But since K to 12 in the Philippines offers "trabaho, negosyo at kolehiyo", it is a door of opportunities for many people.

It is just that, hopefully they implemented 2 years in junior high school and 4 years in senior high school because some students are half-hearted or having their second thoughts with their chosen career, or their chosen strand during their SHS did not match with what they are taking in their college years. For sure, during their 4 years in SHS, they will be more enhanced, they can decide and think well with what they are going to pursue as their profession. Well, that is just my opinion :)

I just want to emphasize these sentences, "EDUCATION CAN LEAD US TO A MORE SECURED FUTURE. Let us not neglect the essence of it, no matter what curriculum or implementations. Do not always look on the negative sides, but let us also consider its positive impacts on our lives."

  35. From childhood to teenage years, my parents did not forget to remind me that education is the key to success. It is the very foundation of good citizenship. We should be attaching and teaching high value to kindergarten.Education is big investment for parents as well as the entire society. The aim of education is to nurture humans to become trully human being, however because of global competition, we need to educate and train our students to be socially competitive individuals and do their part as a citizen of the Philippines. And, of course, they need our cooperation and contribution to develop our economy. We should start today in preparing the citizen for later professional training, for their future jobs and to help them to adjust normally to his/her environment. In these days, it is doubtful that any child is expected to succeed in life if he did not finish his/her education. The K-12 Program mandates that all pupils entering Grade 1 should have compulsory undergone kindergarten or pre-school, and the secondary level will add two more years, that is the senior high school. Accordingly, everybody has stake or concern about education, and, consequently, we should listen to all the voices who are uttering their piece regarding the K-12 Program. We should open our eyes and listen to the ideas and suggestions of other people. We cannot turn the clock back.We should have learn that education is nothing without good manners and right conduct. And we should always be competitive in a nice way and always make sure that we should not be left behind.

  38. EDUCATION IS FOR ALL!

High-quality systems of competency-based education start with a community’s aspirations for students. Completing twelve years of school is an insufficient outcome for students. Students who are able to articulate a vision for their futures, exercise agency in pursuing that vision and effectively navigate their own paths is commonly expressed as the goal for students in competency-based. That vision is one that is made available to all students, not simply those on a particular path or from a limited set of backgrounds. While college and career readiness are absolutely central to any educational system, the definition used in most states today is more limited than the vision of educational equity that competency-based education makes possible. For this reason, it is important that we begin with a statement of the intended purpose for competency-based education

K-12 education, competency-based structures place an equal emphasis upon lifelong skills such as growth mindset, metacognition, learning how to learn, problem-solving, advocacy, collaboration, creativity and the habits of success as they do upon academic content knowledge and skills. Countrys that are pursuing competency-based systems share a belief that the current purpose of K-12 education is to facilitate a process through which all students graduate high school with the academic and lifelong learning skills to be leaders in their communities, and agents of their own success — whether in college, career, or navigating the opportunities and challenges they will encounter in their lives. While each community expresses its own values and goals in the choices it makes around curriculum, pedagogy and school rituals, this core purpose is shared by districts leading the way in competency-based education.

I believe competency-based education offers the most effective structure for achieving this educational purpose. However, realizing this purpose for all students requires attention to issues of equity and quality, meeting students where they are, and policies that create the conditions for success. This clear articulation and understanding of purpose sets us up now to turn to how and why to best achieve that purpose. THANK YOU GODBLESS US ALL

  40. In my opinion k-12 curriculum is very useful and important to have here in our country because, it has many advantage like after senior high school, you can immediately find a job since you already have skills such as cooking, computer service etc. in that way you can apply All the skills that you've learned in your previous year and They enter college more mature. The disadvantage is that if you want to pursue your college degree, it will take a longer Bec. It has another 2 years and if the track you took in senior high school is not related to your desired college course that's the major advantage.

They both enhancing the abilities of the students and also their values when it comes through educating them as well about the world for them to be aware and knowledgable about everything sorrounds them. We may all know that the aim of K-12 is to improve and enhance our skills and also our ideas about english, mathematics and also about the history of the world to give us the ideas and insights when we reach college or tertiary level. As a filipino, it makes us ready and have the acquired learnings or even additional wisdom from a certain core subjects.

In our country(Phillipines), K to 12 has been implemented and for me, K to 12 is very useful to every one of us because it opens up a good opportunities to every individual. Also, K to 12 does not only focusing on the knowledge but the skills of an individual and build us more prepared, globally competent and well-molded students. So, do what is good or right for the bettermwnt of your life and to the growth of our country. EDUCATION holds our SUCCESSFUL FUTURE.

  49. Most of the countries have a different educational system like when the children go to school. They vary the way they manage the school policies and numbers of year in every level through primary and secondary. You can enroll in grade 1 without taking kindergarten but now kindergarten in our conpulsory in our country because we have a curriculm the k to 12 program which means from kindergarten to twelve years of basic education. We need to make kindergarten as conpulsory for the learners to have an adjustment in school so that when they enroll in the next level they will know how to handle themselves.

  50. K to 12 is a term used in education. These grades are kindergarten (K) and 1st to the 12th grade (1-12). The K-12 curriculum helps to enhance the learners' basic skills. Some parents are not in favor with this because of additional year of their children's education. But, look at the bright side of it. K to 12 curriculum will really help the students in their education. Each country has this kind of education system in which through this, students will be provided more opportunities.

Whatever curriculum or education system a country has, do not think about the negative impact, instead we should embrace and look at the positive side of it.

I have noticed that some students aren't also in favor with this new changes. As a future teacher, I will make my students realize and embrace the new education system.

  51. An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. They implement K12 curriculum aiming to make the students prepared and competent individuals in terms of academics. Upgrading our educational system could help our society improved and worth living for. The objective of this curriculum for us not to be able left behind with the other countrys who keep upgrading their education.

May scuttlebutt has been arise before they implementing the program they think that this might just additional to school year instead of after secondary level they now move to tartiary level. They see it seems like they devote theirselves in studying instead of they graduate early and seek a job that fits to them or they are craving to finish their studies abruptly.

As a 21st century student and future educator I must say that this program is the strong foundation of our bridge in achieving our goals. We should learn to embrace the changes and development of our curriculum they didn't just applying it without knowing what will be the outcome because at the end of the day we all will benefit to this.

  52. The K-12 program accelerates mutual recognition of Filipino graduates and professionals in other countries. The new curriculum gives students the chance to choose among three tracks (i.e. Academic; Technical-Vocational-Livelihood; and Sports and Arts) and undergo immersion, which provides relevant exposure and actual experience in their chosen track.

  53. Education is the main foundation for the development and progress of everyone, espicially in every country. As Dr. Jose Rizal said " The youth is the hope of the nation",no doubt that youth is the hope and backbone of every country. Youth is very important for our country progress. So that, the addition of the 2 years consecutive (kto12) is very useful, through this program it develops the confidence and helps to build the personality of a person. As today education is important to everyone so that our country might have a good quality of education because proper education makes the bright future of both, the individual and the country.

  54. Education plays an important role in the development of every human being and societies. That's why, it is also necessary to adopt some changes when it comes to enhancing the education system which indeed could improve, enhance and empower the learnings, skills, capabilities and abilities of each one of the student most especially the youth that could bring them to be the best version of themselves and to enable them to bring hope and be productive members of their society.

Change is really necessary for the purpose of improvement, so education does.

I really do appreciate how our beloved government of the Philippines trying to do its best and put a lot of effort and investment just to make the education free, high quality and flexible enough to compete and showcase the uniqueness and capabilities of each Filipino student in the whole world. One of the improvement that has been done in the education system of the Philippines was the implementation of K to 12 Curriculum that sustain the needs of 21st century learners, people, and trends when it comes to learning and it gives a wide range of opportunities in education and for Filipino students. In addition to this, despite of the problems that our country has, the government still trying their best to prioritize the education and put a lot of investment to it.

With regards to other countries, I admire them and I could say that they are really flexible in inculcating the knowledge to each of their citizen and they are excellent in seeking for some innovation and improvement that could enable their students to have lots of opportunities and to help themselves to have some progress.

In all, change may bring difficulty at first when it terms to breaking the norms or the things that people used to do since then but change also bring enhancement to make the world better and harmonious. It just that we must not only look and focus on the negativity and bad side of something but we should also look for the benefits and positive outcome of it. Just like in implementing the K to 12 Curriculum, negative sides of it are visible but its benefits and advantages are still latent until such time that we can pesonally experience, feel and observe its beautiful outcome.

Proper and good education is very important for all of us. It facilitates quality learning all through the life among people of any age group, cast, creed, religion and region. It is the process of achieving knowledge, values, skills, beliefs, and moral habits. Education gives us a knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something better. It is no secret that a good education has the power to change a life. What is new is the demand for that change. And that change is the implementing K to 12 . Education will serve as a weapon and a treasure that will never be stolen to us, Our country add a new curriculum where the knowledge and the skills of the students can develop and become wider. This curriculum will also help the student to be competitive in other country and this curriculum will also help the student to enhance their skill and knowledge . K-12 program will serve as a guide to the student because it will train and prepare the students on the course they want pursue for the college.

Our country also improving in educating the students.
I'm glad that our country add this curriculum because if our country didn't do it those college students graduated from Philippines and wants to work abroad they still need to study 2 years more for them to be qualified for the work they want to pursue. Today most of the countries having the k-12 program. Most of the the countries giving a chance to all kind of people to study because it's free.

They didn't even know that implementing this curriculum have a good impact to us because it gives every student broaden their knowledge, enhance there skills and be ready to enroll of what they want in college. We need to keep pace so that we will not be last!.

  61. A person's knowledge won't improve just like that, just because they added more years to it and it would be costly now to send their kids to school. The best way to widen their knowledge is through K-12 curriculum, to search and experienced what the outside world has to offer for them.

However while the system is well received, I think the K-12 curriculum could be the better way to improve the learnings of students.

The only thing that I could suggest for each one of us is to go out and experience what the world has to offer. Experience and Application is the best way to adopt wisdom and knowledge that could help in improving all the aspects of a person.

  62. When people heard news of the K-12 program implementation in the country, it received mixed reactions. Suddenly, there was a combination of backlashes and praise in the background with the students left puzzled on whose voice to listen to. There are still challenges and standards of quality to consider but the important thing is to establish that development is present as a result of the new program. Now that the K to 12 system is fully implemented in the country, students now can easy to find a work even they're not graduate in college. But it is not mean that we only need to learn an academic thing but also a values. It is important to us to learn and to know the good value. K-12 is good for us, even it is a waste of time and money to our self and also to our parents.

  64. At first I am not in favor in implementing this new curriculum because aside from the fact that most Filipinos are having a hard time providing the primary needs of their family , it will add another 2 years which is a waste of time .I heard a lot of mixed reactions regarding this Kto12 curriculum but I found the truth , when I enter senior high school . My impression doesn’t really last . Kto12 helps us students to widen our horizon , to develop our self confidence ,and to broaden our knowledge by using our critical thinking and analytical prowess . Indeed, Kto12 program is a steeping stone in achieving a world class kind of education .But I guess here in the Philippines ,government implemented it out of urgency that we are one of the 3 countries in asia that still using basic education curriculum . It can be seen on its first year of implementation , we lack of facilities ,materials and equipments. We can still improve our educational system little by little but hand and hand . Having the K-12 program can open up more possibilities for success. And it can also help make the Philippines more fruitful. It can help solve other problems such as poverty.

Comparing does not always give us a good outcome. So if it will not give you such thing, why do so? We are all different with each other. Our education system is an exception. But the government had already taken its first step. All we have to do is do our part. Not just for us, but for all the so called "hope of our nation"— youth.
K-12 curriculum helps every Filipino, not just intellectually but also economically. It's not a burden, but a big help for us. We are all used on being left behind. But there is an escape out of that— and that is the K-12 curriculum.
Accept it and embrace the changes. After all, change is the only permanent thing on this world.

Deny them that quality education and they are doomed to a life where they never meet their dreams or reach their true potential.

And in this curriculum will give you what you wanted to take if you are going to pursue in college you can choose a GAS strand or if not you can choose a tvl and you will take OJT to recieve your NC I and a NC II if you surpass all challenges you may encounter in your field. That's why those students who are not going to college are now ready to find a job that can support their own needs. 101. The K to 12 program promotes global competency by accelerating mutual recognition of Filipino graduates and professionals in other countries. The new curriculum allows students to choose between three tracks which are the Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood, and the Sports and Arts strand. It will also give students opportunities to undergo immersions, have relevant exposure to a variety of industries, and to have experience in their chosen track. Whereas the old curriculum offers a broad and linear curriculum, it did not include enough practical applications like the K-12 does.

  102. For me, the education is inclusive. Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, and directed research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, however learners may also educate themselves.[1] Education can take place in formal or informal settings and any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational. The methodology of teaching is called pedagogy.

Formal education is commonly divided formally into such stages as preschool or kindergarten, primary school, secondary school and then college, university, or apprenticeship.

A right to education has been recognized by some governments and the United Nations.[2] In most regions, education is compulsory up to a certain age. There is a movement for education reform, and in particular for evidence-based education.

So, we are looking at learning outcomes and looking at skills acquired for them to smoothly transition out of the K to 12 system. Because education reform as big as this needs to be given a chance. K12 is helpful to the tvl student because if they pass the nc 1 and 2 they can get a job even if they not go to in college. As long as they are skilled. Like any kind of system, K-12 curriculum both has a pros and cons. One of the pros is that student learn skills for future courses or jobs in their respective strands. While one of the cons is the added two year in high school which is the Senior High School. The major disadvantage is that the government is not yet prepared for the new curriculum. Private schools have an easier time adjust to the new system and some implemented it earlier. However, the public schools have a hard time making the system work out due to lack of classrooms, teachers and resources. So K-12 is not exactly bad if proper preparation is done and sufficient supplies are provided.

  118. The educational curriculum in the Philippines is low compared to other countries. Other countries are able to learn more advanced subjects and they are able to learn them properly. The reason why other countries are ahead of us in the educational aspect is because of the K-12. K-12 is a prolonged educational program that allows the students to learn more advanced subjects. Adding K-12 to the curriculum will enhance the education of the country because schools will not need to quicken the learning process of the students, will learn more advanced subjects and will provide greater employment options. Students need time for them to properly understand a lesson. K-12 provides students to have more time understanding the lessons, not just cramming them for a latter exam and forgetting them when the exams are over. K-12 gives them a chance to learn more, to enjoy learning in a calm and enjoyable manner, and understand them better. And I thankyou!

  120. implementing the K-12 is done to make our education at par with the rest of the world. Like any kind of system, K-12 both has its pros and cons. One of the pros is that students learn skills for future courses or jobs in their respective strands, while one of the cons is the added two years of high school(SHS).
